| Brief History |
Mike is a life long resident of Bridgeport. As a matter of fact, he represents the 3rd generation of the Garrett family to live in Bridgeport. The common thread that runs through all of the generations can be summed up in one word – “work.” He has lived the very definition of “work” his entire life as represented by some of the jobs that he has held. Mike started working at an early age first as a newspaper delivery boy. As a young man he put himself through college by working as a toll collector, a packer, night watchman, a courier, mason’s helper, and a painter. Mike who has a bachelor’s degree from Sacred Heart University has worked in education both as a teacher and a guidance counselor. Since then Mike entered private industry as an inspector, and a supply chain/logistics planner. |
| Accomplishments |
It has been said that its not what a person learns from their victories that builds character, but more about what they learn from their defeats that give them a clearer view of the path to take in life. Mike has had a few of these defeats in his past. He once lost a game of “Horse” to Walter Luckett. He was overwhelmed at a track meet by a future Olympic Gold Medal winner, Bruce Jenner. Mike also struck out on 3 swings while facing Phil Nastu during his Senior City League playing days. Mike’s victories have been far greater. He won his personal battle over poverty by working his way through college. Mike has obtained a Master of Science Degree from the University of Bridgeport and is currently at Sikorsky Aircraft. As a business associate of Sikorsky Aircraft Mike is part of a corporate team that has set a standard of excellence and is currently the World Leader in vertical lift technology producing the greatest helicopter on the planet which saves hundreds of lives every year. These are the very same aircraft which are currently being deployed around the world to help supply, transport, and protect our United States service people everyday. |
| Plans for Bridgeport |
As Mayor of Bridgeport, Mike Garrett will give all Bridgeporters the same opportunities that he had. He will restore the opportunity to advance in ones life by working hard at meaningful jobs. This will insure a better life for the people of Bridgeport and their families through development of a business friendly city government. Mike believes that the road to prosperity begins with a job and for that reason job-creation through intelligent economic development will be his top priority. |
